Cookie Policy

This website is deliberately light. It sets no advertising cookies, no analytics cookies and no third-party cookies. The only thing it stores on your device is a single first-party preference value. This policy explains exactly what that means.

What a cookie and local storage are

A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to keep, and it is sent back to the server on later requests. Local storage is a similar idea without the sending: the browser keeps a small value on your device that the site's own scripts can read, but which is not attached to every network request. Both are useful for remembering a choice between visits, and both can be used to track people if a site is built that way. This site is not built that way.

What this site stores

This site stores one preference value in your browser's local storage, under a single key, when you acknowledge the cookie notice. The value records the simple fact that you have seen the notice, so that it is not shown to you again. It contains no identifier for you as a person, it is not shared with anyone, and it is not used for advertising, analytics or profiling.

Why essential storage does not need consent

Where the law requires consent for non-essential cookies, it also recognises that storage which is strictly necessary to provide a service you asked for does not need that consent. Remembering that you have dismissed a notice is exactly that kind of storage: it exists only to honour your earlier choice. Because we set nothing else, there is no advertising consent to collect and no preference centre to manage. If we ever introduced a non-essential cookie, we would ask for your consent first and update this page.

Server logs

The web server that hosts this site records ordinary log information, such as the time of a request, the page requested and a coarse network identifier. These logs exist to keep the site secure and working, they are not used to build a profile of you, and they are kept for a short period only. They are described in the Privacy Policy rather than here, because they are not stored in your browser.

How to clear or block storage

You can remove the value this site stores, and block storage in general, from your browser's privacy or site-data settings. Clearing site data will bring the cookie notice back the next time you visit, which is the expected and only consequence. You can also browse with third-party cookies blocked entirely; because this site sets none, nothing here will break. If you use a private or incognito window, the value is discarded when you close the window, and the notice will appear again on a new visit.

Links to other sites

Our pages may link to external resources, such as a courier's tracking page. Once you follow such a link you are on someone else's site, and their cookie practices apply rather than ours. We choose links carefully, but we do not control what a third party stores on your device.
